A Day In The Life of a Nocturnal College Student

Sitting awake at 4:30 am has become a norm in my life. As a psychology major, I wonder how this sleepless behavior affects my future. There’s been various studies about how crucial sleep is, yet a majority of college students give up this behavior. Professionals suggest that a person should sleep about 8 hours in order to maintain health. To me 8 hours seems absolutely ridiculous, but there are facts to support the benefit of enabling this behavior. So then the question turns to why? Why do so many individuals stay up these in these strange hours of the night, sneaking in a hour or two here and there? For me, the obvious answer is always “I have things to do.” It doesn’t matter if I am sleepy or not, there’s always something that could be getting done. In the future I’d love to investigate into the motives and results of nocturnal behavior among college students. I may have just found my psychology capstone topic.
